This blog is all about Myrtos Beach in Kefalonia. I will be running through its history, geology, its location and some fun facts! So what are you waiting for?
Location
Myrtos Beach is located on the north-west coast of Kefalonia. Kefalonia is an Ionian Island which has a beautiful landscape and seas of stunning tranquility. Driving on the scenic route from Fiskardo, it’s about a half an hour to 40 minute drive. On the drive, you go on a winding road until you reach a turning to go down to the beach. Another long winding road outstretches as you go round a sharp corner which everyone stops to take photos. When you get down to the beach, you park literally on the beach and get out the car to go swimming!
The surrounding sediment at Myrtos Beach is generally made of marble and the beach is made up of round, white cobblestones. Kefalonia is one of the largest Ionian islands. It is right in the middle of two tectonic plates which bashed together creating many devastating earthquakes. The most recent earthquake in Kefalonia was the ‘Great Earthquake of 1953’.
