I recently entered the Travel Trade Photographer of the Year 2014 photo competition, run by Travel Weekly in association with Carnival Cruise Lines. Travel Weekly were looking for the best photographers in the UK Travel Trade with a separate winner for each category and an overall winner. The five categories were for Landscapes, People, Nature, Man Made Objects and Fun with entrants able to submit 2 photographs in each category. These were my entries.
The first image was of the Tuscan Landscape taken on a family Holiday to the region 2 years ago, the beautiful rolling landscape was just how I imagined Tuscany to be! The second image was the view from the top of the Hallgrimskirkja Cathedral in Reykjavik, Iceland, you can climb to the top of the tower and take photographs in all directions.
I love this image of an Icelandic pony, taken after a riding excursion across the lava fields outside Reykjavik, he had a lovely thick white coat and mane, which contrasted with his coal black eyes. In the second image, I managed to capture one of the geysir eruptions when we visited the area as part of the Golden Circle Tour, you had to be careful which side you stood, otherwise you got very wet!
Man Made Objects:
The first image was of the Harpa Concert Hall in Rekjavik, the geometric shaped glass panels reflect light in an interesting way. The second image was of a salad we had in Skopelos Town, it was served with these brightly coloured edible flowers and homemade pickled capers, it was delicious!
My daughter enjoying a ‘mamma mia’ moment on holiday in Skopelos! And the final photo is of my son playing in the sea when we holidayed in Ithaka. The image was captured using a cheap underwater camera, but the photo surprised us all, with the light and bubbles and the sheer joy on his face, a great memento of a family holiday. This photograph also made it as the category winner for Fun and he certainly was having fun when the image was taken!
The cameras I used were Nikon 1 Digital and Fotopix Underwater Digital.
