Bali

Bali a country of celebrations, festivals and fun!

17 August marks Indonesia’s 69th year of independence when red flags adorn the street sides and flag raising ceremonies take place at government offices. There is also a major ceremony in Jakarta attended by the head of state and officials. Households and communities throughout the archipelago post flags and decorations at the front of houses. Some communities also hold sack-run races and other revelries in the spirit of nationality. Check out your hotel’s food and beverage highlights for some Independence Day promos and menu specials that usually feature national culinary delights! The Balinese need no excuse for a street or beach party and at this time of year they usually celebrate as they always do, with passion, expressing themselves in ways only the Balinese know how.

Bali

I travelled to Bali over the Saka Calendar New Year in March and had the pleasure of joining in with the locals on their Parade through the streets with their Ogoh-Ogoh papier mache effigies. The evening features lit torches, sometimes firecrackers as well, which are meant to rid the land of malevolent forces and also to prepare for the subsequent silent and contemplative day that is Nyepi.

Bali

Nyepi the following day is the day of silence. We were confined to our hotel for a well earned day of rest following the previous nights celebrations. This is a day when the locals take time out to rest and stay at home with their families – something to bear in mind if travelling to Bali in March.

Bali

Every month in Bali there is something to celebrate. From art and food festivals where you will see some fantastic exhibitions and taste the local culinary delights, to carnivals, triathlons, kite festivals and temple anniversary celebrations. A truly fantastic experience whenever you choose to travel!
