Located in the Southern Aegean Sea Santorini has a more arid climate compared to the Greek islands of the Ionian Sea. The island is at the centre of the Hellenic Volcanic Arc and recent archaeological finds, buried in the volcanic ash, have made people question whether Santorin is the location for the lost city of Atlantis.
Santorini, famous for the blue roof tops contrasting with the white sugar cube buildings clinging to the sheer cliffs and, of course, the famous sunset at Oia is not to be missed! Best time to visit is probably late Spring, when it is still green and before the tourists descend or in Autumn, when it is cooler, the sea still warm and the tourists are leaving!
