Earth Hour

On 28 March at 8.30pm thousands of businesses globally will be showing their support for WWF’s Earth Hour with a spectacular and symbolic lights out event to focus the world’s attention on our planet and the need to protect it.

The Travel Professionals are showing support for this event by encouraging our customers and employees to sign up to promoting the event by switching off all non-essential lights. Everyone can sign up to WWF’s Earth Hour 2015, for more information Sign Up to show your support and join in the conversation #EarthHour @wwf_uk

But the lights out is really just the beginning. We all need to take action now to protect our planet for the future. Climate change is happening and we are facing the biggest environmental challenge ever.

As a travel business you might think this is a contradiction, but there is plenty we can do to minimise the impact our travel has on the environment by encouraging sustainable tourism. As members of ABTA we have committed to the Better Places Campaign which is about working to ensure a sustainable future for our holidays. To do this tourism should:

  • Minimise its impacts on the environment
  • Ensure that local communities benefit from tourism
  • Ensure local economies are enhanced through tourism
  • Respect local culture and traditions

If we want a planet where people and nature thrive then we need to make a change, together we can make change happen, together we can make a difference…
